The suit alleges Apple forces employees to give up their personal privacy rights and surveils them through iCloud accounts and non-work devices.
@Viss @ashleygjovik “If you use your personal account on an Apple-managed or Apple-owned iPhone, iPad or computer, any data stored on the device (including emails, photos, video, notes and more), are subject to search by Apple,”
The same is true of any employer. It is bad practice to use your personal device for work, or your personal Apple ID on a work device. I know it happens, and I’ve done it before, but it really shouldn’t happen.
That said, there may be more meat to the lawsuit than this. It’s hard to tell from the reporting. But if the whole thing is, “Waahh, I wanted to use my personal device for work and had to allow my employer to manage it in order to make that happen,” no sympathy here.
@thomasareed @Viss @ashleygjovik Hard agree, in a way.
I work in the space you do, MSP-land; and the one thing I can't stand is people complaining to me about having to download an authenticator on their device.
It's not my fault. You chose to use a personal device for work. You now have to fit these policies, or you're not using anything. If you want to use a company owned device, get one of those. I can't make this happen. I am just your IT/infosec person. I don't buy stuff for employees lol
@NosirrahSec @thomasareed @ashleygjovik you two know a lot of folks that are 1099 workers, or consultants, or temp workers that get issued gear from a customer?
cuz i dont.
